Senior Thesis

My main research question I am basing my thesis on is

How can the integration of modern lace block printing techniques enhance the design of a timeless wedding dress, balancing tradition and contemporary aesthetics in bridal fashion?

Today, there are many designers who are creating bridal brands which are known to have “unique modern” designs, but they almost stray away from the “traditional” bridal gowns. I believe there is such beauty in timeless garments where both you grandparents and future grandchildren would be wowed by. Through my research, and collection I will be designing next semester, I hope to create bridal gowns that are modern, but timeless which take inspiration from bridal gowns throughout different decades. To create a more “modern” gown, I explored screen printing my own floral repeats. I chose to design and test out three different repeat designs but ultimately decided on a rose and bow motif which is inspired by my mother’s wedding bouquet and a lace I researched from 1903.

During my last semester at UW-Madison I will be further developing and presenting three of these looks.
